JACQUES AND THE BEANSTALK

There were four different plant that we planted, and two projects among them. One of them was water them with mineral water, and the other one is to mixed cow poop to soil.

Mineral Water Project

Jacques and the Beanstalk

Materials:
Sunshine soil
Mineral Water
2 Blue Lake 274 Bush Beans
Indoor lights
2 pots (3.5 inch)
Plastic wrap
Sharpie
Beaker
Turkey Baster

Steps:
Step 1: Label pots as mineral water with a sharpie.
Step 2: Mix 110ml of mineral water with 310ml of Sunshine Soil until fully moist.
Step 3: Put the mixture of 110ml of mineral water and 310ml of Sunshine Soil to the label (3.5 inch) pot, but not all the way only ¾ (Keep the remaining of the mixture!).
Step 4: Plant one bean on the label pot, in which was filled only ¾ .
Step 5: Put the remaining of the mixture into the label pot (Make sure the bean is covered with soil!) .
Step 6: Pour 12ml of mineral water.
Step 7: Put the pot under the lights.
Step 8: Put the plastic wrapper on top of the pots so moisture could wet trap.
Step 9: Water the plant every other day with 10 – 20 ml of mineral water.
Step 10: Repeat the process for the other plant.

Mineral Water

I think that the control group did a much better job on planting the plants. The highest height for the control group was 10.5 cm, and ours was only 4.3, and for the mass theirs was 6.98 and ours .75 g. What I think we did wrong was that we really didn’t research that much on the internet.
At first our group thought that we should get mineral water, because we thought plants needed mineral to survive instead of getting pure water. But when we planted our plants, only one out of two grew, and we thought it was weird. So when we had our final data, we looked over our papers where it said how much water we had put in it. One of the plants did not got enough, and that one was the one that did grew. My opinion is still the same, that the control group did a much better job on planting them.

On the internet while I researched, it said nothing about watering the plants with mineral water. Probably that meant that there was no way you could water the plants with mineral water. While researching about mineral water, it said that mineral water has many nutrients for humans, and said to be that can cure diseases. Though mineral water has salt in it. Salt regulates the osmosis of the water in the cells of the plant and with too little the water, or liquid content contained within flows poorly and the plant suffers. Plants prefer pure water than too much alkaline on the water.

Cow Fertilizer Project

Materials:
Sunshine soil
Cow fertilizer
Blue lake 274 Bush Beans
Indoor lights
Sharpie
Turkey baster
Beaker
Scale
Rainwater
2 pots (3.5)
Plastic wrap

Steps:
Step 1: Label pots as cow fertilizer or just cow.
Step 2: mix 300ml of cow fertilizer into 100ml of soil (if necessary put more soil) until it weighs 113.37grams together.
Step 3: Mix 50ml of rain water into 300ml of cow fertilizer and 100ml of Sunshine Soil until fully moist.
Step 4: Put the mixture of cow fertilizer, rainwater, and Sunshine Soil to the (3.5inch) pot not all the way only ¾ (keep the remaining of the mixture)
Step 5: Plant one of the Blue Lake 274 bush beans ½ inch below surface of soil.
Step 6: Put the remaining mixture into the pot so it covers the bean.
Step 7: Put 10ml of rainwater into pot.
Step 8: Put the pots under the indoor light.
Step 9: Put the plastic wrapper on top of the pot so moisture will be trapped.
Step 10: Water plants every other day with 10ml of rainwater.
Step 11: Repeat the process for other the plant.

Cow Fertilizer
What I think we did wrong was that we probably added too much water on the plant. Out the two (horse #1, and horse #2) none of them grew! Though when I researched on the internet of how to feed a plant, it only said to soak the beans over night, and after you planted it, you only water it when the soil is dry. Unfortunately we did not follow this. The bean WAS soaked during the night, but we added too much water on the soil. So that maybe would’ve have been expected to drowned.
Bush beans can be planted on a warm weather. The water that we added must have confused the bean plant, because the soil should have been warm if you don’t planted on a warm room. This is a step that we forgot, or didn’t knew. So when we mixed water (more than enough) to the soil, the bean must’ve have died because bush beans don’t react to a cold and very wet soil.
Another mistake we did was that first we were supposed to wait till the cow poop dries out, and you can tell this when you touch it feels like ordinary dirt. Also if we put too much, then that will actually make the bean burn or die.
